Jim Berles began his career in Bay View Racquet Sports working as an LIT on the courts and then as a tennis instructor to campers. He met his wife, Kristin (Watson) Berles while both were working at the Bay View courts. After graduating from college, he was in civil engineering before becoming a math and engineering instructor at Alpena Community College, where he is now preparing for his 22nd year of teaching. He and his wife served as Rec Club Directors for the BV teens in 1999 and 2000, and Jim served as the adult morning tennis program director in 2002 and 2003. For the past five years, Jim has also been the assistant tennis coach for the Alpena High School Girls Tennis team.

Jim’s late father Dave was director of the Bay View tennis program and his mother, Mary Kay, helped his dad as an assistant for many years. “With the passing of both my parents this year,” Jim says, “I have reflected on many fond Bay View memories. One of my favorites is of my parents encouraging all members young and old that it is not too late to pick up the sport.” Jim is excited in continuing this tradition with Tennis AND Pickleball in 2022 while promoting social Racquet Club activities!

He looks forward to a summer filled with friendly competition, good sportsmanship, healthy exercise, and much laughter!
