Adult tennis programs run through the 8-week season. All men and women are invited to participate in the morning programs, which run every weekday at the Bay View Lake Courts. This includes men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles every single day. The sessions begin at 8:30am and there is an additional 10am session on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tennis at Bay View is for everyone at every level. Please come out and join us. Individual memberships are available at the registration site.
Tennis Director Gretchen Rush is a newbie in Bay View but not on the court… Gretchen has had a long career in tennis that goes back to her early years and continues today as a teacher and coach of the sport.
She brings to the Association a love of the game and a philosophy that embodies the Bay View spirit of recreation: “(players) play their best when they are playing for the pure joy of the game”.
Highlights from Gretchen’s competitive career include World Junior Champion in 1982. As a college player, Gretchen was a four-time All-American player at Trinity University. She was the College Women’s Player of the Year in 1984 and 1985 and received the Arthur Ashe Award for Sportsmanship in 1985.
After college, Gretchen enjoyed a successful professional career. Her highest WTA professional world ranking was #13 in singles and #15 in doubles. She was a Quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, the French Open, and the U.S. Open. She was a Finalist at Wimbledon in mixed doubles. She won four singles and four doubles championships as a pro player. Additionally, Gretchen represented the U.S. in the 1983 Pan Am Games (gold medalist in singles and doubles) and in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
After retiring from the professional tour, Gretchen began teaching tennis at private clubs and has been coaching collegiate tennis for over ten years. She also served as the international tennis director for the Special Olympics for five years.
Her professional certifications include: USPTA P1 certification, USTA High Performance Coaching Certification, USTA recreational coach, and she is CPR certified.
Gretchen’s resume is exemplary and brings new dimensions to the Bay View tennis program. During the season, she is also available for private and semi-private tennis lessons…along with her dog Romey you can usually find Gretchen at the courts.
Bay View Family Tennis Membership Benefits: Ability to reserve lake or woods courts, ability to reserve ball machine (when available), opportunity to participate in morning tennis and clinics, opportunity to play in tournaments. Bay View Family Tennis Membership fee includes relatives living in the same cottage with primary tennis-playing members. Fee does NOT include house guests or family members who rent, own, or reside elsewhere, in or out of Bay View. PLEASE NOTE: Individual and Junior Memberships are found as individual courses. Weekly or season family memberships are available for $35/week and $280/season at the registration site.
America’s fastest growing sport for all ages! Open play for Bay View pickleball is at the Woods Courts on Mondays through Saturdays from 9am – noon and on Sunday from 1 – 4pm. Kids, adults, beginners, skilled all are welcome – just show up and join in. Loner paddles and balls are available. Private lessons and clinics can be arranged by request.
