Bay View offers programs in both Tennis and Pickleball.

TENNIS PROGRAMS

Adult tennis programs run through the 8-week season from mid-June through mid-August. All men and women are invited to participate in the morning programs, which run every weekday at the Bay View Lake Courts. This includes men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles every single day. The sessions begin at 8:30am and there is an additional 10am session on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tennis at Bay View is for everyone at every level. Please come out and join us. Individual and family court fees are available at the registration site, or at the Box Office during normal hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – Noon starting June 12, 2024.

TENNIS COORDINATOR

Brock Woods “I love the Bay View tennis program and all it’s done for me”, explains Brock. This 2024 season will be Brock Woods’ 8th year as a tennis instructor for Bay View. He grew up playing Bay View tennis every summer. He played year-round, from middle school and all the way through high school. Brock started JV in his freshman and sophomore years and was pulled up to play a few varsity matches during those years. He moved up to varsity in his junior and senior years and advanced to districts. With Brock as our Tennis Coordinator, it truly will be “fun and recreation for all.”

RACQUET SPORTS DIRECTOR

Todd Grigg has been a resident and member of Bay View for 25 years. His wife, Brenda Bowyer Grigg works at the waterfront. He has coached various sports (basketball, track, cross country, and baseball) for 20+ years at Triad High School in Troy, IL where he also serves as Cooperative Education Director and Personal Finance teacher. In the past, Todd has helped out at the boathouse, tennis courts, recreational club and post office.

His coaching background includes many successful teams in different sports at Triad High School and Middle School. His boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams have won four state championships during his tenure and he has been named IBCA boys’ varsity coach of year in basketball. As an athlete, he competed in basketball, baseball, track and football in high school. Grigg continued his athletic career at McKendree University in Lebanon, Il on the basketball team and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management. He earned his Master’s degree in IT from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 2006. In 2010, he was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame at McKendree University.

His tennis background started when his kids entered the Bay View tennis club more than 10 years ago. Brendan Grigg (son) was an All-State tennis player in Illinois. Bailey Grigg (daughter) was also an All-State tennis player in Illinois and currently plays on the McKendree University’s women’s tennis team. Both of his children are products of the Bay View Tennis club.

PICKLEBALL PROGRAMS

Pickleball is America’s fastest growing sport for all ages! Bay View’s adult pickleball program runs through the 8-week season from mid-June through mid-August. Play also occurs pre-season beginning in late May/early June and post-season extending until late-September/early-October, weather permitting. All men and women are invited to participate in the open play programs, which run every weekday and Saturday morning, as well as Sunday afternoons at the Bay View Woods Courts. (Wednesday mornings are ladies only.) The morning sessions begin at 9am (10am for ladies day) and Sunday afternoons start at 2pm. Pickleball at Bay View is for everyone at every level. Kids, adults, beginners, all are welcome – just show up and join in. Loner paddles and balls are available. Please come out and join us. Individual and family court fees are available at the registration site.

DICK CROSSLAND – PICKLEBALL PROFESSIONAL

Dick Crossland is a longtime resident and member who grew up in Bay View during the summers attending the Boys & Girls Club and participating in all of the Recreation programs including tennis. He helps organize the pickleball program on a volunteer basis along with others, notably Steve Turkal.

Dick became a USA Pickleball Ambassador for Englewood, FL in 2018 and earned his certification as a Professional Pickleball Coach by the PPR (Professional Pickleball Registry) the same year. He competed at the national level in the 75+ bracket in the AAU National Championships in 2018 winning Gold in Men’s Doubles and Silver in Men’s Singles. In the 2020 AAU Championships he won Gold in both Men’s Doubles and Men’s Singles. In 2021 he competed in the Minto US Open Championships in Naples, FL – the largest pickleball tournament in the US – and won Gold in Men’s Doubles and finished 4th in Men’s Singles in his age group/skill level.

FAMILY, INDIVIDUAL, COURT FEES AND REGISTRATION

Bay View Family Tennis Court Fees: Ability to reserve lake or woods courts, ability to reserve a tennis ball machine (when available), opportunity to participate in morning tennis and clinics, opportunity to play in tournaments as well as participate in all pickleball programs. Bay View Family court fees include relatives living in the same cottage with primary racquet-playing members. Fee does NOT include house guests or family members who rent, own, or reside elsewhere, in or out of Bay View. PLEASE NOTE: Individual and Junior Memberships are found as individual courses. Weekly or season court fees are available for the rates below at the registration site.

Weekly – $25/$75 :: Season – $175/$500

Family (prices member/non-member)

Weekly – $50/$100 :: Season – $375/$700
