Amy-Jill Levine’s Short Stories by Jesus reexamines Jesus’s parables as provocative stories that challenged first-century Jewish audiences, intentionally designed to disturb and push people toward action, connecting to Jewish scripture, daily life, and Roman culture. By rooting her study in their historical context and Jesus’ own Jewish roots, participants will explore their original shock value to help us see how they still challenge complacency today.
