Ensembles

Student Ensemble Bay View offers dedicated, personalized experiences through an extremely limited number of ensembles each year, featuring two string quartets, two brass quintets, two woodwind quintets, and various other combinations that include large ensembles by area, orchestral pit experiences, and smaller groups (as time allows). Students are typically notified upon acceptance to the festival which ensemble they will be in and repertoire for those ensembles selected before arrival so the musical experience is maximized during your time with us.

Coachings

Daily coachings are one of the most personalized experiences the festival offers, with students and faculty working together closely on this serene campus allow for unmatched coaching time interspersed with lessons, classes, and enjoying the beautiful waters of Lake Michigan. “Life-changing…” “An incredible combination of learning from professionals and yet feeling like the young professional that I am…”

Master Classes

Several master classes with acclaimed artists will be held throughout the summer making Bay View a truly empowering, inviting atmosphere. Concerto Competition

For those in a session that puts them on campus on July 3, you are welcome to participate in the concerto competition, where winners are given the opportunity to perform with orchestra and a $200 award. Application materials are due before arrival and your selection must be pre-vetted, but we encourage all session 1 attendees to compete in this supportive environment. The only additional cost is $20 to your accompanist. (Not available in 2019)

PRIVATE LESSONS

Student Artists enroll for private study with a member of the Bay View faculty. Students may wish to contact teachers prior to the beginning of the season to discuss repertoire and goals for the summer.

CHAMBER MUSIC

Bay View’s Chamber Music Class is an intensive pre-professional experience which incorporates private coaching, master class sessions, weekly Student Artist recitals and Chamber Music concerts.

FESTIVAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Some instrumentalists perform with the Bay View Chamber Orchestra. Student and faculty players combine to form the Bay View Chamber Orchestra. The Orchestra’s performances are:

  • The Adrian Boyer Vocal/Instrumental Competition concert
  • Three performances of the Musical Theatre production
  • Pops orchestra experience at the end of summer
THRIVING IN THE ARTS

This course will help young artists develop options and methods for building a successful professional career. Bay View Music Faculty will lead a series of seminars on topics including (but not limited to) preparation, free lancing, organizing a private studio, employment skills and mock auditions for orchestra and opera/musical theatre, self and professional management and grant writing.

INCOME FROM OUTREACH

Whether your career path leads you to orchestra, opera, chamber music or college life, outreach services are now the essential connection to communities, future audiences and student recruitment. This course will explore the nuts and bolts of outreach services including programming, networking and funding sources.
