The Bay View Association Woman’s Council selected Riley Schornak of Petoskey as its 2020 scholarship recipient. Schornak is the daughter of Scott and Sarah Schornak of Petoskey. Schornak, with a grade point average of 3.95, has been on the executive board of the National Honor Society, a member of Key Club, vice president of the French Club and a flutist in the Petoskey High School band. In addition to volunteering at Manna and the Villa through the National Honor Society, she has also mentored incoming Petoskey High School freshmen for the past two years as well as volunteered regularly at the Petoskey District Library. She is also a member of the Crooked Tree Arts Center Symphony Orchestra. Schornak has completed an independent study in leadership fundamentals and has been in the honors class track throughout her high school years. In addition to her class and volunteer schedule, she has worked at McLean and Eakin Booksellers since 2017. She plans to attend Brown University in the fall, majoring in Comparative Literature. The Bay View Woman’s Council has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a Petoskey High School senior girl each year based on community involvement, leadership and scholastic achievement.
