Life on a Lonely Shore: History of the Vermilion Point Life-Saving Station

The Vermilion Point Life-Saving Station, 10 miles west of Whitefish Point on Lake Superior, was founded in 1876 to rescue mariners from shipwrecks caused by Lake Superior’s famous storms. Learn about the men stationed there, their daring rescues, their exhaustive training and the families who lived with them. Author Edward Canfield, D.O., will be joined by Anne Fleming of the Little Traverse Conservancy to talk about the book and the efforts to preserve this extraordinary bit of Lake Superior history.
