Class: Kintsugi – The Japanese Art of Repairing Broken Pottery with Gold
In this 4-part class we will practice the 500-year-old Japanese Art of Kintsugi: mending a broken piece of pottery with gold. Kintsugi highlights imperfection, and serves as a metaphor for accepting flaws and brokenness. Our repaired pieces will be more beautiful in their brokeness than they were before. We will experience breaking a ceramic cup, and then repairing it with gold, using non-toxic and food-safe materials. The price for this class includes a $35 materials fee.
Instructor Mary Dye is a Ceramic Artist and Arts Educator known for her woodfired functional pottery and dynamic teaching style. Her work has been collected internationally and is represented in public and private collections in the US, England, China, and Japan.
