Bay View was honored to be part of the recent State of the Community Luncheon, hosted by the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce. The event brought together leaders from across the Petoskey area to reflect on the strength, challenges, and shared future of our region.
Bay View was grateful for the opportunity to have our Executive Director, Megan DeWindt, speak about Bay View’s role in the local economy and the broader community. Megan’s remarks begin at 1:03:21 in the program recording, which can be viewed here.
In her remarks, Megan shared how Bay View’s programs draw people from the area and across the region—welcoming both local residents and visitors to Bay View and Petoskey. Our seasonal residents, guests, and visitors make a meaningful economic impact, supporting area businesses, services, and jobs throughout the year.
This impact is reflected in a Michigan State University economic study, which found that Bay View contributes $38.2 million annually to the local economy and supports more than 450 direct and indirect jobs. As the largest single taxpayer in Bear Creek Township, Bay View is proud to play a steady role in the region’s growth, stability, and long-term success. These findings affirm Bay View’s long-standing commitment to responsible stewardship and meaningful partnership with the surrounding community.
Bay View also highlighted its dedication to public access and enrichment. Each season, more than 250 programs are offered free and open to the public, reflecting our belief that education, the arts, recreation, and spiritual life should be shared widely. This community impact grows directly from Bay View’s mission to enrich lives while contributing positively to the place we call home.
Board President Walt Byers, who attended the event, shared this thought: “We were proud that Bay View was invited to speak and grateful for the opportunity to introduce the wider community to the significant contributions Bay View makes to the region. Beyond our historic campus and programs, Bay View is an active and invested partner in the area’s vitality and future.”
We were pleased to share the stage with many respected community leaders, including City of Petoskey’s Shane Horn, Emmet County’s David Boyer, and Kirsten Korth-White from our season sponsor Munson Healthcare, whose partnership and leadership help strengthen northern Michigan.
We extend our thanks to the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce for hosting this important conversation—and for recognizing Bay View as part of the ongoing story of growth, collaboration, and community in northern Michigan.
