Due to the extent of the damage—particularly downed power lines, fallen trees, and large hanging branches—the Opening of the Bay View Grounds is delayed for up to two weeks and the Bay View Woods are closed to the public until further notice. Entering campus is at your own risk.
The Board approved a motion to delay the April 25 opening of the grounds. The Executive Director will determine when it is safe to return and will give at least 10 days’ notice before reopening to allow cottagers to make arrangements with their contractors. We expect this delay to be up to two weeks. Special circumstances may be granted to allow for early residence if it is deemed safe to return.
We are working to restore the campus to a safe environment, and we look forward to welcoming you for our 150th Jubilee Season!
The Governor has declared Emmet County a State of Emergency, and power outages persist throughout the region, including Bay View. The National Guard has been deployed to assist first responders, powerline crews, and tree removal teams. A travel advisory is in place and residents are strongly urged to stay home and limit travel to essential trips only. We recognize the uncertainty this brings and want to assure you that our top priorities are the well-being of our staff and the peace of mind of our members.
We are following our structured Crisis Response Plan which includes:
1. Make our grounds safe and secure our campus – in progress
2. Assess all cottages and grounds damage and communicate findings – pending
3. Develop a recovery plan including repairs, tree and brush removal, etc. – upcoming
We remain in the first phase, focusing on safety and stabilization. We will continue to provide daily updates to keep you informed.
The Bay View offices remain closed until further notice. However, we are committed to keeping you updated. As soon as it is safe, we will conduct an exterior check of every cottage and notify owners of any urgent damage. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we navigate this evolving situation. Please follow us on Facebook for updates.
