The Bay View Recreation program consists of approximately 25 adult staff and 55 youth staff to run the various programs that make up the fun-filled summer activities at Bay View for as many as 250 campers during peak season. But, we still need your help! If you have a special talent, skill or community resources you would like to share, please contact Renée Allen, recreation director.
The 2010 Summer Program Focus is on Youth Development. Please let us know how you can be of service to the Bay View community by assisting the youth campers and leaders of tomorrow.
A few past volunteer examples:
- Orienteering training for staff
- Youth Triathlon organized and coordinated by community members
- Storytelling
- Book reading
- Building the Tot Lot and Fawn play houses
- Worker bee pre-season ( Memorial Weekend) work at the waterfront 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 29
- Adult supervision on the overnights (all night and no sleep)
- Walking tours through Bay View with history lessons
- Nature walks with tree identification
- Drumming circles
- Theatre/puppets
The list is endless. One of the goals of the Bay View recreation program is to allow children to explore play and discover the wonder of nature, sport activities and social interactions. Most of our programs and activities take place outside. Therefore if you have any games to teach, or outdoor education activities to share - please let us know at the beginning of the season so we may schedule these.
