Application Process

  1. Complete and submit your application either via electronic or hand- written application and include the application fee of $155.
  2. Letters to your references (2 Bay View members and 2 additional (Bay View or not)) will be sent by the Bay View office indicating you have listed them as references and asking them to write and submit letters of reference for your application.
  3. Once all of the above have been received by the Bay View Office, the Membership Committee Chair contacts you to schedule an in-person interview in Bay View.
  4. Once the interview is complete, the Membership Committee evaluates your full application, including the interview, and makes a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
  5. At a regularly scheduled BOT meeting, the BOT votes on your application.

Welcome and thank you for your interest in joining our beautiful, historic community. Perhaps you have already attended many of the activities offered in Bay View or have spent time with friends here. Perhaps you are new to the association and are interested in becoming a part of Bay View’s rich history. Bay View is a special place where you can experience and share with friends and family for generations to come.

Becoming a member of Bay View is a step-by-step process that we explain in detail both on our website and in our membership packet, which can be sent to you via mail in it's entirety. The Association By-Laws direct that Bay View be managed by a board of nine trustees and those persons appointed by the board to carry out the day-to-day functions of the Association. Trustees are leaseholding members who are elected to three-year terms at the Association's Annual Meeting. A majority of trustees must be members of the United Methodist Church. Bay View members abide by a set of Rules and By-laws.

Classifications of Membership*

From the Bay View Association By-Laws:

Leaseholding Members

Leaseholding Members are those persons who are currently leaseholders of property in Bay View. The term “Leaseholding Member” includes a member who is either a beneficiary or a trustee of a trust holding a Bay View leasehold. Subject to paragraphs 1-C and 1-F, only a Leaseholding Member shall be entitled to vote at any meeting of the membership of the Association. Each Leaseholding Member is entitled to one vote. They shall also be entitled to membership rates for all Bay View activities. Upon termination of a Leaseholding Membership, the member automatically becomes an Associate Member.

Associate Members

Associate Members are those persons who are not Leaseholding Members but who have been accepted for membership by the Board of Trustees. They shall have no right to vote at any membership meeting of the Association, but they shall be entitled to membership rates for all Bay View activities.

*When applying for membership, one applies for an Associate Membership. One becomes a Leaseholding Member after being added to a lease or with the purchase of a cottage.
