What is Bay View Association?

Bay View was founded in 1876 on Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay and grew into a Christian summer community of 437 cottages, 3 lodgings, and 29 community buildings. Its goal for summer residents is to combine musical, intellectual and religious development with healthful rest in a natural setting. The summer programs now are open to the public and include a major music camp with classical performances, pop concerts, a musical and opera performances, guest topical and religious lecturers, 90 classes, as well as Sunday worship and musical Vesper concerts. Bay View is also a National Historic Landmark.

What is a Chautauqua?

The Chautauqua Movement was an American educational and cultural movement from 1870’s. It takes its name from the Chautauqua Institution on Lake Chautauqua in western New York. Summer communities sprung up across the US embracing the chautauqua ideals of lifelong learning, exploration of Christian faith, love of nature, music, and recreation. Only a handful of active Chautauqua’s remain, including Bay View Association.

Is Bay View a National Historic Landmark?

Yes, Bay View is known for its original Victorian style cottages and campus buildings. This summer community was listed as a National Historic Landmark district in 1987 as one of the best-preserved examples of the Methodist Camp Meeting movement.

Two historic Inns are located in Bay View within walking distance to the main campus and event venues.

How do I order event tickets?

You can buy tickets Online or at the Box Office. You may print them for yourself and avoid the lines, or pick them up at the Bay View Box Office. A credit card must be used to purchase tickets online. There is a service charge of $.95 per ticket.

Telephone Orders

Orders can be placed by calling 1-888-596-1027. A credit card is required for phone orders. You may pick up your tickets at the Bay View Box Office. There is a service charge of $.95 per ticket when ordering by phone, plus a $5 per order charge if using the call center.

The main box office is located in Voorhies Hall. Cash, checks or credit cards are accepted. There is NO service charge when ordering at the box office.

What is the Music Conservatory at Bay View?

With 30 faculty artists, Bay View is the summer home for great performances and a destination for college students wishing to further train with their instrument or voice. Bay View music festival lays claim as the longest continuously operating chamber music festival in the United States.

Is there a weekly Church Service?

Yes, an interfaith Christian Worship service is offered each Sunday at 10:45am in Hall Auditorium during the summer season. All are welcome. Each week a guest preacher leads worship and then gives daily lectures during the week.
