The By-Laws of the Association state (paragraph 40-B) that the purpose of this committee is “...to preserve and enhance the status of the Bay View Association as a National Historic Landmark...” The Committee is responsible for reviewing all building permit applications involving either remodeling or new construction. This helps ensure construction projects that blend harmoniously with the general architectural design of buildings and structures in Bay View.  Proposed projects must also meet standards including: 1. compatibility with the re-use of the structure; 2. avoiding destruction of distinguishing qualities; 3. recognition and respect of structural changes over time; 4. repairing rather than replacing distinguishing characteristics. Leaseholders contemplating changes to existing buildings, demolition, or new construction should obtain a copy of “Building Codes, Procedures, and Historic Conservation Guidelines for the Bay View Association.” This booklet is available at Russell Hall and  explains Bay View permit application procedures. The Architectural Review Committee will provide early assistance to leaseholders contemplating cottage site improvements. It’s important to seek the committee’s assistance to help ensure your new construction conforms to our community’s expectations.

These include minutes of official meetings and other papers of individuals connected with Bay View and its history. Located in the lower level of the Wade Administration Building, the Archives is open 1-3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons in June, July, and August for members and researchers use.  Volunteer trained members of the commision are available during these hours to assist in your search. These holdings depend upon the the donation of materials from members and officials of the Association to update and make the holdings more complete. While there are many areas with nearly complete holdings, such as Summer Bulletins; there are other areas, such as specific cottages and some committees, where there is virtually nothing.  Anything that members and friends can provide will be appreciated. The Bay View Historical Museum’s 2010 exhibit will feature quilts and coverlets. The Museum’s collection reflects both decorative and functional quilts. In the Victorian age of the 1890’s, decorative crazy quilts were a popular form of art handwork with the use of an abundance of silks and satins sewn and embroidered into subjects of interests significant to the quilter and her family. In contrast, Depression era quilts were made of plainer cotton and wool fabrics and used for warmth, reflecting the economy of the time. This  summer’s program will provide visitors an opportunity to view the Museum's collection and learn more about quilt making. Children's quilting activities and tours of the Museum buildings will introduce them to the quilt making skills passed down through the generations.

Dedicated in 1994, the garden is consecrated as a memorial place and repository for ashes from cremations of members and friends of Bay View. It is a living symbol of our resurrection faith; all are welcome to visit as often as they choose. The garden is supervised by the Memorial Garden Committee and maintained by volunteers. We welcome you as a volunteer gardener; please contact a committee member. Any leaseholder planning to build an addition to any existing structure or build a new structure on a leasehold must order a professional survey at Russell Hall. The Plat Committee will review the survey to determine if all setback and boundary issues have been satisfied as required by the By-Laws, Rules and Regulations. If the survey does not meet all the requirements or the adjacent leaseholder(s) disputes the surveyed boundary line, the leaseholder objecting may order a new survey, at his expense, in an attempt to resolve the issues. If the survey and drawing are rejected by the Plat Committee, the objecting party may appeal in writing to the Boundary Resolution Committee regarding any setback, boundary line or Bay View Rules and Regulations. The Boundary Resolution Committee’s decision shall be binding and can only be appealed to the Bay View Board of Trustees, whose decision is final. The Plat Committee may also act as a consultant to the Architectural Review Committee and superintendent in matters of land use and site development.

2012: Mary Jackson, Elizabeth Terry, Diane Wells

On October 25, 1880, trustees decided to reserve an area as a “natural park” so the woods became an integral part of the Bay View experience. Besides economic considerations, the trustees felt that the woods should be dedicated to the recreational, educational, and spiritual needs of the community. To that end, a Woods Advisory Committee was formed in 1985 to advise trustees in their stewardship of the woods.  Today, Boys’ and Girls’ Club, groups and educational seminars take guided walks through four miles of hiking trails and walkway (see calendar section for details). The committee sponsors lectures on topics relating to the woods and periodically plans open houses. Jogging, hiking and walking are encouraged, but no bikes, please. In 1996, a plaque and rest area were dedicated in memory of Dr. William Gilbert for his efforts in preserving and protecting Bay View’s Woods for future generations.
